Principal's Letter, 23 October 2020

Firstly, may I thank you for your support this half term. It has been a busy few weeks and I am pleased with how well students have adapted to the new measures in place. With a number of schools all around us sending groups of students or in some cases whole year groups home for self-isolation, I am pleased that we are able to meet this half-term point with our academy fully open. I am confident that with your support we will continue to manage the risks. My dedicated team of staff is doing everything possible to ensure that your children stay safe whilst on site. This will remain a key priority and I will continue to implement all appropriate measures to ensure you feel it is safe for your children to continue to attend school.

Covid 19
If you have not yet had a chance to listen to the video I issued yesterday, I would urge you to do so. It sets out important information relating to Covid 19, including symptoms, self-isolation, testing and the actions that would be taken in the event of a positive test result in the academy. It is vital that parents and carers are aware of the steps I will take and how that will be communicated. Can I also emphasise the importance of providing us with your up to date contact details should we need to contact you urgently at any point. If you are not sure that we have your current contact details, please email them to our Student Data Manager, Mrs Thwaites, on [email protected] who will update your child’s student record.

Newsletter
Please find attached our latest newsletter. I hope you enjoy reading about this half-term’s activities.

Full Academy Uniform
As I mentioned in the video yesterday, after half term, all students are required to wear their full academy uniform every day and will change into their PE kits on the days they have PE lessons. The changing rooms will be used and appropriate cleaning provision is in place.

Lockers
Lockers have been reallocated to all Year 8-11 students who returned their locker keys, and new keys were issued during tutor time this morning. We regret that we are unable to provide a locker currently to students in those year groups who have not returned their old locker keys but will make arrangements for this once we receive the outstanding key. If your child has lost their locker key, please contact Mr Burge on [email protected].

Year 7 lockers can now be issued. If you would like your child to have a locker, please make the necessary payment via ParentPay and lockers will be allocated after half term.

I would like to thank you for your patience while we undertook the considerable task of collecting in hundreds of locker keys, cleaning all the lockers and then reallocating them by bubble area.

Poppy Appeal
We are pleased to be able to support the Poppy Appeal again this year. Poppies are available in bubble areas during registration.

I wish you all a safe half term and hope that despite the rule of six, our students can enjoy a break and take time to relax and return to school on Monday 2nd November refreshed and ready to learn.

Mr P Slaughter, Principal
