Six Villages Cluedo

Year 8 students who have been studying crime fiction this term, had the chance to design, create and play their very own Cluedo board games.

Special OSVA editions of the game included staff suspects from Mr Slaughter, Mr Kidd, Mr Hard, Miss Wickham and Miss Carter. Their boards also had school rooms from the academy on them ranging from the Sports Hall, Library, Gate Theatre and Science Labs. Lastly pupils came up with inventive murder weapons including football boots, scissors, books, a teacher’s lanyard and a fan.

One student said: “I enjoyed working in a group to create the board game.” Another said: “It was really fun making a board game and then getting a chance to play it after.”

The 12- and 13-year-olds used the deductions skills they had learnt from reading Sherlock Holmes stories and played the games in their groups using buttons as counters.

English teacher, Miss Wickham said: “It has been really lovely watching the students create their own games. They have worked really hard over the summer term reading extracts from crime fiction and learning about stock characters and how authors create suspense in their crime fiction novels. Just recently we read The Blue Carbuncle, a Sherlock Holmes story by Arthur Conan Doyle. The class enjoyed learning how Holmes uses deduction to solve a case, and they transferred these skills to their board games.”
