Ormiston Six Villages Academy unveils incredible sports facilities transformation

Students will now be able to enjoy year-round outdoor sports as the academy opens a new state-of-art multi use games area (MUGA).

Ormiston Six Villages Academy, part of Ormiston Academies Trust (OAT), has revealed its anticipated new MUGA which will encourage students to pursue sporting passions in any weather.

With funding from Ormiston Academies Trust, the academy has spent four months transforming their previous outdated asphalt sporting areas and building a brand-new sand-based astroturf and specialist sports mesh fencing, helping more students to access a wider variety of high-quality sports and games.

As part of the academy’s investment into creating sporting opportunities for students, the outstanding MUGA includes courts for a huge range of games with a football pitch, four tennis courts, three netball courts and three handball courts. The academy has also invested in new, high-grade equipment including rackets, netballs, and full-size goals to be used in students’ PE lessons, social games, and team practices.

Alongside this, the academy will be installing new LED sports lights to ensure the pitch is environmentally friendly and can be used even in dark winters.

Paul Slaughter, Principal at Ormiston Six Villages Academy, said:

“Our new MUGA is an amazing facility for our students and the local area. These upgraded sports facilities will allow all our students to access a variety of physical activities and sports, with the specialist equipment supporting those keen to develop their sporting passions. Alongside this, the new area will enable our students to develop their communication and teamwork skills, whilst encouraging them to lead a healthy and active life.

“We’re really excited to be opening this space and to see our young people building their talents and sportsmanship, with undoubtedly many sporting successes for Ormiston Six Villages in the future! We’d like to thank Ormiston Trust for their generosity and support in making this possible.”
