Online Safety Alert

We were alerted by the police earlier today that a number of children have been the recipients of inappropriate and indecent images on social media, and this includes some female students from our academy. This is the subject of a police investigation. I would urge you to please have open conversations with your children about their social media accounts and review with them their online ‘friendships’. Over the last two weeks we have shared with you a range of online safety and safeguarding advice on how to protect your children online. If you have any questions on how to protect your child, please contact [email protected].

Year 9 Options Information Evening – Thursday 11th February, 6pm

As the Options process for next year’s GCSE courses starts, we are delighted to invite you to an Options Information Evening on Thursday 11 February at 6:00pm. We understand it is an important point in our students’ journey and that these choices will require your careful thought and consideration. To support you and your child in the process we have put together an Options Booklet, available on the curriculum page of the website. This booklet provides detail about what courses we offer, how they are assessed and what further education/career every subject leads to. Click here to read it. All subject leaders have also made short videos to help with the process, available on the website: https://ormistonsixvillagesacademy.co.uk/curriculum/gcse-options/

Mrs McHale, Mr Marsh and Mrs Sharma look forward to welcoming you next Thursday. They will explain how the online process will work, share key dates for you to be mindful of and when the final choices will be shared. There will also be time to ask all questions at the end. Year 9 Parents’ Consultation – Thursday 25th February

The Year 9 parents’ consultation will be held virtually providing parents, carers and students with an opportunity to meet with each subject teacher, just as you would have done if the academy had been open in normal times. The usual appointment booking system will open at 4pm on Monday. If you have any difficulty booking your appointments, please contact the admin team on [email protected] who will be happy to assist.

STEM Competition

Has your child ever thought about a career in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) or imagined gaming for a living? Then STEMFest is for them!

This is an excellent opportunity to develop skills in many areas such as, communication, analytical thinking and teamwork. It also provides the opportunity to work with regional STEM support leads and work with industry experts.

Students will work in teams to develop and present solutions to real world social action problems, using STEM and is a really exciting competition. If your child would like to get involved, please email Miss Williamson [email protected].

Finally, a reminder that tomorrow is an INSET day. No work will be online and the academy will be closed to students.
