The Academy uses a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) called Connect to record student homework, rewards, behaviour and detentions, as well as point students to resources to be used in the classroom and beyond. The electronic rewards system hleps to encourage students to take positive choices in their behaviour, attendance and contribution to life at the Academy. The system uses the same points system as detailed in our Student Planner; however certain benefits are gained from using the electronic system to record students’ actions.
Each action has a badge and a value. Throughout the year, students showing positive effort, contribution and commitment within lessons will be awarded badges by teachers in lessons for levels 1, 2 and 3. Badges for Levels 4 and 5 will be awarded each half term for students achieving the very highest levels of attendance, Attitude to Learning (AtL), punctuality and exemplary behaviour resulting in no behaviour points.
The points that students earn count towards their progress on the leaderboards – there are leaderboards at lesson, subject, registration group, year and community levels. By logging in, students can see their progress daily as well as their position on each leaderboard and whether they have achieved or are nearing one of the coveted Gold, Silver or Bronze trophies. Their progress is also tracked on their own personal timeline, allowing them to see at a glance exactly when and what their achievements were.
Students then can cash in their points for rewards ranging from stationery, a ‘fast pass’ or vouchers for the canteen, entry into raffles to win prizes of cinema tickets or music download vouchers, or a place on an end-of-year trip!
Connect can be accessed by students and parents/carers by visiting:
Parent usernames and passwords are provided to those with parental responsibility over students at the Academy. This enables parents/carers to view their child’s Dashboard, showing the rewards and achievements students have received each week, as well as any incidents or sanctions. A weekly update is also sent to parents/carers by email.
